USDT is a token, not a blockchain. Tether issues the same dollar-pegged token on whichever networks have demand — Ethereum for DeFi, TRON for transfers, BNB and Solana for cheap rails, and so on. 📄The Legacy Layer: Omni
Omni was the first home of USDT, built on Bitcoin’s transaction scripting. It is slow, clunky and expensive by modern standards, and only a tiny sliver of USDT still lives there. Exchanges have largely delisted Omni withdrawals.
We tell users to avoid Omni unless a specific platform requires it — and to pay close attention when an exchange lists “USDT-Omni,” because it is nearly always a worse choice than TRC20 for cost and speed.
